How important is directory submission when we do S.E.O
There are two main reasons for directory submission is :-
1) Targeted traffic.
2) Link popularity.
Targeted Traffic :- Do you think that getting large traffic to the site is good?? Right!!!!! No but it’s not always the case. If I am the owner of the site selling automobile parts and accessories, then the people coming to my site in search of computers and laptops are of no use to me. To get benefited in the online business we want targeted traffic.
Most of the search engines are not that perfect in displaying the search results. They may not display the sites to the user which are of interest to them. Thus not only they send the users away from the site, but they send those traffic to the site that cannot become our customer. We want those people to come to the site who are interested in the product or the offering that we have. When talking in terms of S.E.O, this is called conversion rate. We are just not interested in dragging large traffic to the site, but we want those people who help us to generate revenue and become our customer.
If you get 100 people from one source and have a 10% conversion rate, and you have 100 people from other source with 40% conversion rate, then other is much better.
Link Popularity :- Let me explain this in a different way. The search engine works in a automated way. It scans millions of pages on the Internet and ranks the pages. But have you ever wondered what is the process used by the search engines to rank those pages found on the Internet??
So the answer is, most of the search engines go for link popularity algorithm. Whenever we have a link from outside our website to any of our web-page or website it is considered as a vote. More the number of votes, means we have more number of links pointing to our web-page or website. Thus more the number of votes implies that the search engine is bound to give us higher ranking, as it trusts lot on link popularity and feel that lot of people and the organization feels that the site is worth visiting.
